Ron Royse and John Chamberlain Named 2024 Tigard Chamber From the Heart Award Recipients

Ron Royse and John Chamberlain have been selected as the 2024 Tigard Shining Stars “From the Heart” Volunteers of the Year.

Named in honor of Jim Hartman who set the standard for this award by his example of giving from the heart to his community, and the “From the Heart” award honors a person(s) who have dedicated their time and energy to a specific cause in the Tigard community. This person(s) gives willingly, energetically and consistently; they might be well known or might be a “quiet” volunteer, who always gives “from the heart”!

Ron Royse and John Chamberlain were selected for this award for their dedication to the Tigard Community through their volunteerism efforts over the past 36+ years. They have specifically been recognized for the outstanding work they have done as the Hosts, Master of Ceremonies, and Firework Launchers for the past 36 years for the Tigard Old-Fashioned 4th of July held annually at Tigard High School and Cook Park.

Former Tigard Mayor John L. Cook has fond memories of those early fireworks displays. “As a little kid, we would go. My dad (former Tigard Mayor John E. Cook) would take our family and watch Joe launch the fireworks. I remember as a child going to the pond every year. It would be a party…It was a nice social gathering. It was put on for the community and it was enjoyable.” This tradition sparked a legacy that John and Ron have continued to this day.

Please join us in congratulating Ron Royse and John Chamberlain on this well-deserved award. This award will be formally presented with other Tigard Volunteer and Business Awards at the 50th Annual Tigard Shining Stars Community Awards Celebration Presented by Center Street Gold & Silver. It will be held on Friday, May 10th from 5:30pm – 10pm at the Embassy Suites Washington Square. Join us in celebrating the people and businesses that make Tigard a great place to work, play and live.
