2018 Tigard Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Recipients

The Tigard Chamber of Commerce (TCC) is pleased to announce the 2018 recipients of the Tigard Shining Stars Scholarship Awards. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship made possible by a generous donation from Pride Disposal, HomeStreet Bank and roughly 80 businesses who are members of the Tigard Chamber of Commerce. Applicants were judged based on career plans, extracurricular and/ or work activities, scholastic achievement and letters of recommendation. Hannah Jedan, Tigard High School
Malia Lundstrom, Tigard High School
Charlotte Welch, Tigard High School
Sean Coloma has been involved in the Tigard Youth Advisory Council and the Spanish National Honor Society. He has also been actively involved in the Tigard Youth Peer Court doing more than 190 hours of service on the jury. While doing so, he has maintained a 3.9/ 4.1 weighted GPA.
Coloma will be going to Portland State University to get a degree in History with a minor in Political Science with an emphasis on pre-law. He hopes to be in a position to advocate for those that need help in order to succeed possibly in a field of social work.
Hannah Jedan has participated in basketball, volleyball, the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America and SPEAK. She is passionate about sports and they play a big part in her life. She also has done community service through Key Club and her church. She planned and organized her own community service event in which Tigard High School students served meals to the homeless at a local community center. While doing so she has maintained a 3.9/4.1 weighted GPA.
Jedan’s ultimate goal would be to have a job that involves sports. After high school, she will be going to college to study business. She would like to get a job doing marketing for a sports team or for a company that provides athletes with the equipment they need.
Malia Lundstrom fills her time outside of class with recreational sports, cross country, lacrosse and has been part of the Girl Scouts since 2005. She is also in school clubs like Future Business Leaders of America, Young Life and the Spanish National Honor Society. She volunteers at the Good Neighbor Center, Potluck in the Park, Tigard Food Pantry and Center for Medically Fragile Children. All while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
Lundstrom will be attending the School of Engineering at University of Portland. Her goal is to become an engineer and find a job that not only provides financial support for herself and her future family but also allows her to serve others and make a positive impact in her community. From the words of one of her teachers “Malia is a dedicated student who possesses a wonderful mix of kindness, selflessness, leadership, intelligence and maturity.”
Charlotte Welch is President of the National Honor Society and Key Club. Through those, she has dedicated hundreds of hours of service. She is a leader of Young Life and a part of the Astronomy Club. She also volunteers her time at the Center for Medically Fragile Children at Providence. While managing two of the largest clubs at her school, Welch has maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Welch plans to attend the University of Utah to receive a Bachelors of Science in nursing. She would like to take her degree in nursing beyond hospital walls and partake in international aid. She would like to work for a non-profit nursing organization to make the biggest impact she can in the world.
 Our congratulation again to all four recipients. These scholarships will be formally presented with other Tigard volunteer and business awards at Tigard’s 2018 Shining Stars Community Awards Gala. The event will be held on Friday, April 28th from 5:30 to 9 PM at the Embassy Suites – Washington Square, our event location host. With a theme of masquerade ball, this elegant themed event includes a silent auction, dinner, dessert dash, awards and more. Tickets are $55 per person.
