NerdWallet considers business climate and local economic health
San Francisco, CA (May 22, 2015) – NerdWallet, a consumer finance website, has
conducted a study to find the best places to start a business in Oregon – and Tigard ranked sixth.
To determine this ranking, NerdWallet examined over 500 companies in 79 communities and
analyzed the following factors:
Business climate
Average revenue of businesses
Percentage of businesses with paid employees
Businesses per 100 people
Local economic health
Median annual income
Median monthly housing costs
Unemployment rate
Tigard maintains impressive statistics across all of the variables in the study. With a population of 49,000, Tigard has 5,574 businesses boasting average revenue per business of $1,829,452. Not only does Tigard have a revitalized downtown, but also the City Center Development Agency has recently approved a $26-million mixed-use residential and commercial project. These numbers and projects should continue to encourage entrepreneurs. Downtown businesses include glass-blowing studio Live Laugh Love Glass and Tigard Wine Crafters, where visitors can make their own wine. Businesses can join the Tigard Area Chamber of Commerce, which offers members the Business Accelerator Program, a free growth-coaching series.
