Our mission at the Tigard Area Chamber of Commerce is simple in focus, bold in impact: Building and Connecting Businesses, Growing Leaders and Shaping Our Community. We put our mission at the center of every decision and action, driving success for our members, constituents, and the broader community.
Last month, our CEO Megan De Salvo joined representatives from Greater Portland Inc., Metro, and other regional economic development leaders to share insights on where coordination across jurisdictions is working and where it breaks down, the shared opportunities we should pursue together, and the collaborative initiatives that could strengthen the region’s competitiveness. The conversation was honest and productive and will help develop the region’s next Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.
The group found that a large majority of the feedback aligned with the results of the Governor’s Prosperity Council surveys, demonstrating broad support for initiatives that strengthen and support businesses. The Top 5 areas desired for state action are:
- Tax Reform
- Supply Chain
- Skilled Workforce
- Industrial Site Readiness
- Trade
Our region also has an emerging opportunity to establish itself as a leader in women’s sports while further embracing and promoting its strong outdoor recreation lifestyle. Together, these areas present opportunities to strengthen our economy, attract new investment, and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors.
We are thankful to have had the opportunity to contribute to this important roundtable discussion. This input will help ensure the region’s strategy reflects the realities and ambitions of the industries that power Greater Portland’s economy. By grounding the strategy in the perspectives of the business community, the region can better align its priorities with the opportunities and challenges shaping our economic future.
