Adam LaFountain Named 2017 Tigard Youth Volunteer of the Year
Adam LaFountain has been selected as the 2017 Shining Stars Tigard Youth Volunteer of the Year, named in honor of former Mayor Jim Nicoli, who passed away in 2000. Mayor Nicoli’s dedication to the youth of our community was a fitting way to honor his name and award a youth in our community who volunteers to make a difference. Many young people in Tigard are active in volunteer efforts and it is our pleasure to acknowledge their contributions of dedication, energy and community spirit. They are the future!
Adam is a senior at Tigard High School and is the president of the Tigard Youth Advisory Council (TYAC) at the City of Tigard. He has been an active TYAC member since 2014 and represented the City at the National League of Cities Conference in Washington, DC. Under Adam’s leadership, TYAC has completed a meme contest to highlight the smoking and vaping ban on city property, regularly cleaned Main Street as part of the Adopt-a-Street program, and built a Free Little Library which will be placed in Downtown Tigard.
Outside of TYAC, Adam has been a leader in the Boy Scouts attaining Eagle Scout in 2014, and was the 2015 Oregon VFW Scout of the Year. In addition, he has participated in Tigard Swim Team, Tigard High School Leadership, Future Business Leaders of America 2014-2016, Young Life and numerous other volunteer activities. After getting his double major in Christian Ministries and Business Adam hopes to either work for Young Life or some other non-profit to help those in need. Adam exemplifies the potential of the Tigard Youth.
Please join us in congratulating Adam on this well-deserved award. His award will be formally presented with other Tigard volunteer and business awards at Tigard’s 2017 Shining Stars Community Awards Celebration, sponsored by Title Sponsors HomeStreet Bank (King City) and Center Street Gold & Silver and held on Friday, April 28th from 5:30-9 p.m. at Embassy Suites – Washington Square, event location host.
