Tigard’s Burgerville SELECTED AS THE tIGARD CHAMBER
BUSINESS OF THE YEAR FOR 2013

Tigard’s Burgerville managers and crew celebrate opening day in July 2012.
April 4, 2013 (Tigard, OR) — Tigard’s Burgerville has been selected as the 2013 Tigard Shining Stars Chamber Business of the Year.  Burgerville has made a significant impact on the Tigard Community since opening their 39th restaurant in July 2012. The restaurant is located at 12785 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard.  The Chamber Business of the Year Awardis made to a Tigard Chamber business who hasmade in-depth contributions to the Tigard community through their business. The winner is active, involved, interested, and enthusiastic about continuing to make Tigard a destination of choice for local business. Nominee must be a chamber member in good standing.
Tigard’s Burgerville has been actively engaged from the start even before opening with outreach to the Tigard Chamber, Tigard High School and more.  They engaged with Tigard High students for community outreach and marketing during construction of their Tigard location and during the early months after opening. Some of those students have stayed on with Burgerville are currently working at the restaurant. Communications via Facebook connected with the community and created awareness about the 40 jobs that Burgerville brought to Tigard and their hiring timeline.  Additionally, their physical street facing reader board engaged with community members along the way.
An example of Burgerville’s community mindfulness is the community partnership fundraising events it regularly holds. From its opening through the end of March this year, Tigard’s Burgerville has held 27 fundraising events. These events normally consist of a 3-4 hour window of time on a specified evening and 10% of the proceeds are donated to the targeted community organization. These events collectively have raised a total amount of more than $8,000. A partial list of local Tigard organizations they have supported with this targeted fundraising include Durham Elementary, CF Tigard Elementary, Tigard/Tualatin Relay for Life, Tigard Blast Girls Softball, Tigard Youth Basketball, Tigard High School Orchestra, Fowler Middle School, Alberta Rider Elementary, American Cancer Society, Tigard High Snowboard & Ski Team, Westside Gymnastics Girl’s Team and Lions Club of Tigard.
Other ways they are connecting with the community include Burgerville Bookworms held the first Monday of every month at the restaurant. At that monthly event, kids are entertained with arts and crafts along with storytelling to support reading. Also, Tigard’s Burgerville features local student musicians and groups, with live music at the Tigard Burgerville location, giving students an opportunity to showcase their talent. Burgerville is now a major sponsor of the Tigard Area Farmers Market, supporting the 20th season of the market at its new venue to help bring the local community, farmers and non-profits together in a way that benefits all.
Additionally, Burgerville has a digital community reader board inside their restaurant to constantly stream community information. Postings of event information are available to the community at no charge along with the restaurant’s live Twitter and Instagram feeds.  Community members may tweet them or tag Instagram images with #bvtigard and may also email information and PDFs about local events and activities to be uploaded directly to the restaurant.
Burgerville is a perfect example of a large business that is local and cares about its community! They have an incredible commitment to Tigard’s youth, our citizens’ health and well being, partnering with the community to address social concerns in our area, all while supporting local agriculture and sustainable efforts.
