Jean Jackson to be Honored as Tigard’s First Citizen

Jean Jackson, Owner of Becoming You Hypnosis, has been selected as Tigard’s First Citizen. This award is given to an individual who has made in-depth, long-term volunteer contributions to the Tigard community over the years. The winner is active, involved, interested, and enthusiastic about making Tigard a nice place to live and work. This individual excels in any area of unpaid endeavor of education, social services, youth work, and community improvement of public services. This award is given in the spirit of all volunteers who remain unknown. Jean joins the ranks of those previously honored in continually striving to improve the Tigard Area.
Jean Jackson exemplifies these characteristics by her active involvement in the Tigard Community across a broad range of social service, non-profit, and community activities. Over the last decade, Jean has been actively involved in multiple facets of our community ranging from business activities and fundraising to service clubs.  She has been actively involved with the Tigard Chamber Ambassadors, Tigard Chamber Board of Directors, Tigard Kiwanis and Tigard Tualatin Relay for Life in addition to volunteer work with The Good Neighbor Center, Salvation Army, and City of Tigard/Downtown Tigard events and is a Board member of a Washington County Loaves and Fishes Center.
A Tigard Chamber member since 2001, Jean has served on the Ambassadors Committee since 2010, taking the position of Chair of the Ambassadors the last 2 years.  In this role she also sits on the Tigard Chamber Board of Directors. Jean has taken part in many activities within the chamber including Tigard Young Professionals, Speed Networking, Shining Stars, Bowl-o-Rama and Holiday Happy Hour. Her Tigard community involvement has included volunteer roles with the Downtown Tigard “Safe & Happy Halloween” event for numerous years as well as the Tigard Christmas Tree Lighting.
An avid proponent of the chamber, Jean believes that being a part of her community is essential.  Living in Tigard is more than just a place to reside, it’s truly “A Place to Call Home”.  She has lived in Tigard for 28 years and her children are graduates of Tigard High School.  Jean says “Tigard exemplifies all the qualities that I wanted in a community to live in and raise my children and giving back to that community is my way of saying thanks for being such a welcoming city”
Jean’s work with Tigard/Tualatin Relay for Life and Tigard Kiwanis includes being an extended hand to those in need regardless of their health, financial status or age.  People are people and through the American Cancer Society and the Kiwanis Club of Tigard Jean has the opportunity to engage and assist on many different levels, giving back to our great community. Sometimes it’s fixing a meal at the Good Neighbor Center for homeless families, bell ringing for the Salvation Army or holding someone’s hand as they pass from cancer to peace.
Jean says” It as an honor to be involved with these amazing groups and I invite you all to reach out within your community and be part of the solution.  The need has never been greater and the time is now.  Get involved and make a difference in someone else’s life and feel the joy expand in your heart.  It takes a Village and Tigard is MY Village”.
In addition to her volunteer activities Jean is a focused business woman, active in the Tigard business community for over 12 years, owning two other small businesses in the downtown Tigard area prior to becoming a Certified Hypnotherapist and N.L.P. Practioner prompting her to  start her own Hypnotherapy business 4 years ago.  Always looking to expand and grow, Jean received education and Certification to facilitate Forensic Hypnotherapy which will open up opportunities to assist law enforcement agencies with case research. Showing quality in all she does her business was recognized with an Angie’s List, 2012 Superior Service award. This award honors excellence among service and health providers who maintain a superior service record. 
Jean is tireless, her level of involvement and commitment to her community is awe inspiring.  Jean is described by the person who nominated her as a “Go-Giver”.  “She always gives without asking for anything in return.  She has the energy, drive and attitude that Tigard needs.  Her reputation and business come 2nd to her volunteer partners”.

With a theme of “Wild, Wild West”, this Western themed dinner event includes dinner, silent auction, signature drinks, dessert dash, awards, and more.
