What is a Drive-Thru Hiring Event?

Think of it as a pop-up career fair on the street with social distancing in place to talk to job seekers. You will have space to set up your table, chairs and a canopy (if you would like shade). We’re providing the drive through location with elbow-room and a chance for you to talk with job seekers looking for work. Job seeker are invited to drive-thru and stop for a chat at your location or park and walk up for a visit if they choose. Employers must bring their own tables, chairs and canopy (optional).

This hiring event will be advertised on the WorkSource Oregon homepage, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Eventbrite. WorkSource Oregon will also use a Fast Pass notification emailed to job seekers in the Portland Metro area and Yamhill County, covering over a thousand job seekers of job classifications that represent the positions being offered at the event.

This is a great way to do a quick screening. You’re also welcome to collect resumes. In previous events like this, we’ve seen good use of handouts with instructions on contacting you for the next step if you are interested in the candidate.

Employer Requirements

The main requirement for employers is that you post your open positions with WorkSource. Call 503-257-HIRE (4473) for assistance with posting your jobs. We will also ask you for the names of job seekers you hire to help justify the expenditure of time and resources to produce this program.

This event is open to employers free of charge. Space is limited. To reserve a spot for your business at this event, contact Barbee Williams, Barbee.A.Williams@oregon.go(External link)(External link)v(External link). Registration ends September 1.

Adrian Hinckley Named 2021 Tigard Shining Stars “From the Heart” Volunteer of the Year

From the Heart Volunteer

Adrian Hinckley has been selected as the 2021 Tigard Shining Stars “From the Heart” Volunteer of the Year, named in honor of Jim Hartman.  Jim Hartman set the standard for this award by his example of giving from the heart to his community, and the “From the Heart” award honors a person who has dedicated their time and energy to a specific cause in the Tigard community.  This person gives willingly, energetically and consistently; they might be well known or might be a “quiet” volunteer, unrecognized until now, but always gives “from the heart”!  This person may have worked on the same project for many years.

Adrian is a local business owner and community activist. He has volunteered his time in support of many efforts to make the Tigard community a better place over the years, including organizing and implementing the Latino Festival in conjunction with the Downtown Tigard Street Fair.

He has lead initiatives through his business to support and promote the local Latino community. As a part of his business model, Adrian can be found giving back to the local community through backpack giveaways and focusing his volunteer work on supporting local minority business owners.

Most recently, Adrian played a pivotal role in establishing the Los Empresarios de Tigard program, a partnership with the City of Tigard and Tigard Chamber of Commerce to provide business support for Latinx entrepreneurs. Adrian initially approached City of Tigard about creating a program to improve support services for Latinx entrepreneurs and Los Empresarios de Tigard is the result of 6 months of collaborative work between Adrian, the City and the Tigard Chamber. The first event was hosted on January 29, 2020 and attracted an audience of 80 Latino entrepreneurs. Overall, the event was very well received by the community and additional workshops were planned. This program would not have been possible without Adrian’s tireless dedication and support.

As a small business owner and father, Adrian has many things that vie for his time. Despite his busy schedule, Adrian is a constant presence at community functions and somehow finds time to organize events and programming that is helping make Tigard a more inclusive and welcoming place to call home.

Please join us in congratulating Adrian and thanking him for his service to our Tigard community.  His award will be formally presented with other Tigard volunteer and business awards at Tigard’s 2021 Shining Stars Community Awards, held on Friday, April 30 from 7-9 p.m. virtually on the Tigard Chamber Facebook page and YouTube channel. Join in on the celebration by pre-ordering dinner from De Angelo’s Catering, get dressed up and join the conversation online while enjoying the award ceremony from the comfort of your home.

Emilio Calderon Named 2021 Tigard Shining Stars Youth Volunteer of the Year

Youth Volunteer of the Year

Emilio Calderon has been selected as the 2021 Tigard Youth Volunteer of the Year, named in honor of former Mayor Jim Nicoli, who passed away in 2000. Mayor Nicoli’s dedication to the youth of our community was a fitting way to honor his name and recognize  a youth in our community who volunteers to make a difference. Many young people in Tigard are active in volunteer efforts and it is our pleasure to acknowledge their contributions of dedication, energy and community spirit. They are our future!

Emilio joined the Tigard Youth Advisory Council (TYAC) at the age of 13. He has remained an active TYAC member and leader, serving two-terms as secretary and one term as President. During his time as the President of TYAC, Emilio grew the group’s membership and led several projects. He organized multiple volunteer events to cook dinner for families at the Good Neighbor Center, hosted monthly adopt-a-highway cleanups, volunteered at city events, promoted youth voices with ‘social media takeovers; and assisted in surveying Tigard youth about mental health challenges.

Most recently, Emilio was appointed the Youth Councilor on the City Council. His leadership continues as he serves on the Public Safety Advisory Board, participates in discussions on COVID-19 support needs, is a voice for younger Tigard residents on issues like School Resource Officers and racial justice, promotes the role of Youth Councilor and shares the importance of city parks on the video series, “Let’s Talk… Parks!”.

He does Youth Councilor and TYAC all while still balancing his studies and activities as a high school student.

Please join us in congratulating Emilio on this well-deserved award. His award will be formally presented with other Tigard volunteer and business awards at Tigard’s 2021 Shining Stars Community Awards Gala, held on Friday, April 30 from 7-9 p.m. virtually on the Tigard Chamber Facebook page and YouTube channel.
