Adrian Hinckley Named 2021 Tigard Shining Stars “From the Heart” Volunteer of the Year

From the Heart Volunteer

Adrian Hinckley has been selected as the 2021 Tigard Shining Stars “From the Heart” Volunteer of the Year, named in honor of Jim Hartman.  Jim Hartman set the standard for this award by his example of giving from the heart to his community, and the “From the Heart” award honors a person who has dedicated their time and energy to a specific cause in the Tigard community.  This person gives willingly, energetically and consistently; they might be well known or might be a “quiet” volunteer, unrecognized until now, but always gives “from the heart”!  This person may have worked on the same project for many years.

Adrian is a local business owner and community activist. He has volunteered his time in support of many efforts to make the Tigard community a better place over the years, including organizing and implementing the Latino Festival in conjunction with the Downtown Tigard Street Fair.

He has lead initiatives through his business to support and promote the local Latino community. As a part of his business model, Adrian can be found giving back to the local community through backpack giveaways and focusing his volunteer work on supporting local minority business owners.

Most recently, Adrian played a pivotal role in establishing the Los Empresarios de Tigard program, a partnership with the City of Tigard and Tigard Chamber of Commerce to provide business support for Latinx entrepreneurs. Adrian initially approached City of Tigard about creating a program to improve support services for Latinx entrepreneurs and Los Empresarios de Tigard is the result of 6 months of collaborative work between Adrian, the City and the Tigard Chamber. The first event was hosted on January 29, 2020 and attracted an audience of 80 Latino entrepreneurs. Overall, the event was very well received by the community and additional workshops were planned. This program would not have been possible without Adrian’s tireless dedication and support.

As a small business owner and father, Adrian has many things that vie for his time. Despite his busy schedule, Adrian is a constant presence at community functions and somehow finds time to organize events and programming that is helping make Tigard a more inclusive and welcoming place to call home.

Please join us in congratulating Adrian and thanking him for his service to our Tigard community.  His award will be formally presented with other Tigard volunteer and business awards at Tigard’s 2021 Shining Stars Community Awards, held on Friday, April 30 from 7-9 p.m. virtually on the Tigard Chamber Facebook page and YouTube channel. Join in on the celebration by pre-ordering dinner from De Angelo’s Catering, get dressed up and join the conversation online while enjoying the award ceremony from the comfort of your home.

Vaccine Resources – CDC Essential Worker Vaccination Communication Toolkit for Employers

We were just made aware of this resource tool from the CDC for essential worker employers that want to educate and inform their employees about the COVID-19 vaccine.  We are sharing this information broadly to insure we don’t overlook anyone.  If this doesn’t apply directly to your business at this time, please share with someone you know that it does.

The CDC has designed a COVID-19 Vaccination Communication Toolkit for Essential Workers to help employers build confidence in this important new vaccine. The toolkit will help employers across various industries educate their workforce about COVID-19 vaccines, raise awareness about the benefits of vaccination, and address common questions and concerns.

The toolkit contains a variety of resources including:

  • key messages,
  • an educational slide deck
  • FAQs
  • posters/flyers – in English and Spanish
  • newsletter content
  • a plain language vaccine factsheet (available in several different languages)
  • a template letter for employees
  • social media content
  • vaccination sticker templates.

There are about 8-10 posters that are broad industry specific covering food service, first responders, healthcare, day care, construction, farmers, grocery, delivery and more.  Above is a sample of what that looks like.

The CDC will continue to add more materials to this toolkit, so please check back frequently for updates.

Please feel free to share this info with colleagues and businesses that you know in essential worker industries.
